Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust – staff magazine

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust’s staff magazine takes a close look at the people and stories behind the success and expertise within five hospitals across London.

Trust (originally called Pulse) focuses on staff, patients and volunteers – and is available to all. Thousands of copies are printed and distributed to staff and patients at all locations, and a digital version is available on the Trust’s website.

Artful Dog produced the visual concepts for the magazine when it launched in 2016 and has designed each quarterly issue since.

The magazine replaced a Metro-style newspaper; the internal communication team wanted a dynamic, less corporate and visually engaging publication with image-led articles and multiple entry points.

Content moved away from a newspaper reporting style that told staff what was happening and what they needed to do. The magazine is feature-led, tackling issues that are interesting and entertaining to a broad audience and which link back to the Trust’s vision.

While retaining elements of the Trust’s brand, Trust needed to look and feel accessible and appealing to match the editorial. The magazine’s clean, clear layout, large professionally taken photos, and pull-out boxes and side bars make key messages easier to find.
