Institute of Internal Communication – membership magazine
Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC), the leading independent professional body dedicated to internal comms and employee engagement, appointed Artful Dog as its creative partner to develop a refreshed communication and publishing strategy.
Our aim was to produce a suite of print and digital channels that stood out from the content that internal communicators receive every day. Firstly, we wanted to produce a print publication with newsstand design and valuable content that IC managers could share with their teams.
In December 2016, we launched a new quarterly, feature-led print magazine that explores the good, the bad and the ugly of internal communication.
Sent to more than 1,000 IoIC members – mainly IC managers and creative agencies – Voice takes an honest look at the challenges and barriers internal communicators face in delivering a positive employee experience. These issues are explored in-depth, including thoughts, experiences and contributions from across the industry, and advice and best practice techniques for improving engagement.
Ranging between 44 and 52 pages, Voice has explored a variety of topics in depth, including trust in leaders, measurement, mental health in the workplace, building business acumen, working with HR, flexible working, the recruitment of ex-offenders, managing comms on a small budget, developing an internal brand culture and enterprise social networks.
The magazine is for internal communicators by internal communicators, with opportunities for professionals and specialists to share and exchange ideas, through insight, first-person columns, case studies, letters and Q&As.
Artful Dog writes, edits and designs the publication – planning and writing content, sourcing contributors, laying out copy and providing creative direction.
Working with IoIC, Artful Dog also also launched a complementary online channel, Voice Online, which includes edited and extended content from the magazine, as well as additional online-only news and features. Additionally, Artful Dog redesigned and relaunched IoIC’s monthly e-newsletter, Voice Mail, which goes to 5,000 subscribers.
